Glasspack

show 85: Formed in the new millennium by front-man Dirty Dave Johnson, The Glasspack is the answer to the worn-out southern rock of the classic rock airwaves and the sudden staleness of modern hard rock radio. Distinctly of Louisville, this creative and unique Kentucky band has pulled its influences from the best of the 60's jam rock and 70's hard rock punk, thus obtaining a very wide variety of listeners and fans.

The Glasspack's music can be found in episodes of MTV's Viva La Bam and Homewreckers shows, and even video games like Discovery Channel's Monster Garage by Activision and ESPN's 2K5 Pro Baseball.

The Glasspack has now finished it's fourth full-length release, entitled Dirty Women on Small Stone Recordings. The album was recorded with vintage analog equipment and all American Fender Guitars. More info on the Glasspack can be found at at www.theglasspack.com and www.smallstone.com

who: The Glasspack, Trigger Renegade :
when: Nov 9, 2007 - 10PM :
were: Alibi, 744 9th, Arcata, CA :
cost: $4 :

pioneers

Pants Pants began in a secluded Virginia farmhouse. It was there that the
group's founding members, Sysop and Ted Dancing resolved to combine their love
of enchanting electronica with the energy and intricacy of indie rock. The duo
headed westward where they discovered a marvelous new member, Lauren Lauren.
Together Pants Pants Pants have created a completely new sound that fluctuates
gracefully from moments of inescapable beauty to elated absurdity and which has
earned them praise as the Frank Zappa of the 21st century and the B-52s of the

We listen to the
Fucking
Buckaroos (stationed in San Francisco, CA), were birthed in the fall of 2004
when four musicians with a common distaste for effects-ridden music began
working hard to cause a ruckus that could snarl and claw its way through the
hackneyed drone of modern sound, and relieve the world of this terrible burden.
The difference between the
Fucking
Buckaroos and other modern day folk-esque groups (like the punk rock
Flogging Molly or most of the alt country scene) is that when the other bands
turn to blasting distortion behind a fiddle or slowly picking a banjo over
electronic samples to achieve power, the Buckaroos do it the old-fashioned way:
by gargling Garth Brooks' semen, and waiting until they really need to pee
before they play. You will find none of that processed bullshit here; they play
raw, loud, and honest. Mostly. Dirk Fistly,

Their tongue in cheek on stage schtick and the autobiographical fat kid anthem Jelly Rolls prove that they got nothing to prove. They do what they do because they love it. Between shredding keys and shrieking lyrics, Anderson heaves himself headlong into the audience with his trusty SM58 vocal mic in hand, while King lets loose with chugging power chords and bursts of lead flourish and Neal decimates the audience with his thundering bass. By the end of the high impact, in your face show, the gargantuan Anderson and King are drenched in sweat, while the diminutive by comparison Neal is barely breathing hard. The
Mirrors formed a mere five months ago. Already, in that short time, they
have recorded a full length album and played to sold out crowds in clubs around
Los Angeles. The lead singer Jeremy's vocals have been compared to Rod Stewart.
Displaying lush harmonies and a 70's edge, they have drawn comparisons to the
likes of Muse and Wolfmother. However, it is their raw energy, catchy melodies
and thought provoking lyrics that show The Mirrors clearly have their finger
firmly on the pulse of today's new rock music scene : You can buy their new

band, spawns from Memphis, TN and its tradition of honest, heartfelt music. But
they're never home for long, touring continuously and playing almost a year's
worth of shows during their adolescent tenure. Giant Bear celebrates a two year
anniversary with a month long west coast tour in May, 2007. The tour is in
support of their self-titled second LP, which will be available mid-June 2007.
The album is enormous musically, showcasing a variety of established guest
musicians all well loved in Memphis, adding accordion, pedal steel, Hammond B3
and slide guitar. Despite how big their music is sonically, the songs originate
with the theory that music is best when it's simple and the stories are
straightforward :
The defining trait of the band lies in the frighteningly beautiful vocals, which are executed primarily by vocalists Claire and Page. As sisters, their voices are similar enough to mesh with each other flawlessly, yet they are different enough to represent two distinct approaches to the material at hand. Sisters Claire and Page Campbell sing about God and heartbreak like they're drunk on their own glorious harmonies and have all the time in the world.
